McCartney earns songwriting award

The US Library of Congress will announce Monday (11/16) that Paul McCartney is the 2010 recipient of the Gershwin Prize for Popular SongMcCartney becomes the first foreign songwriter to pick up the prize named in honor of George & Ira Gershwin. Paul Simon received the honor in 2007, and it was awarded to Stevie Wonder in 2009.  The 2010 ceremony is expected to take place in Washington, the city the Beatles did their first US concert in two days after appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show in February of 1964.  Plans for the 2010 include a tribute concert featuring plenty of star power.
