Groups Target Townshend

Some child abuse prevention groups do not think the NFL should be satisfied with the explanation Pete Townshend of the Who used after a 2003 inquiry into his use of a web site that included sexually explicit images of children.  Townshend, who contends he was a victim of sexual abuse during his childhood, said he viewed the online site in 1999 while doing research for an autobiography.  British authorities settled the matter by issuing a caution to Townshend and placing him on a sex offender watch list in the UK for a period of 5 years.  The founder of one of the groups told the Florida Sun Sentinel 'The Who is a great band. Pete Townshend is the only issue here.'  Some contend the campaign to ban the band from the NFL title game in Miami is just a publicity ploy.
